About me

Hi, my name is Tyron Hunter.

I’m an amateur genealogist based in Johannesburg, South Africa, who has always been curious about my roots.

I’ve been researching my family tree in earnest for well over a decade now and in that time I’ve managed to trace it back to at least seven countries and across a span of almost three hundred years.

Why I write this blog

I started this blog to share the family history I’ve accumulated:

  • with the rest of my family (those close to me as well as those distant relations who might find me through this blog) to hopefully given them a better sense of the real people behind those distant names on their family trees.
  • with anyone else interested in research their own family history – especially those with links to South Africa – so that they can learn from some of the experiences and mistakes I made whilst researching my family.
